Meet your Junior Deans
For those of you we haven't met, we are the college Junior Deans - Sophia Toumazou and Ed Peveler.
Our role in college is essentially to help make sure everyone is able to enjoy their time in Oxford as fully as possible. To this end we have a role with two parts. The first is "keeping the peace," i.e. making sure we as a community get along well, respect each other, and abide by the college rules. Everyone here has the right to live and study without being negatively impacted by others, so please do try to respect that.
Secondly, and equally as important, we have a role in helping to look after your welfare. The college and SRC have between them a great team of welfare officers and peer supporters who you can speak to for support and sign-posting on to other services (see the welfare page), but in addition the Junior Deans can also act in this role, providing a confidential, sensitive ear with whom to talk things through. Between us we have many years of experience and training in this field, and we can point you towards the professional services available to you for any issues you may be having.
Our primary on-call hours are during the evenings and night, from 11pm to 7am, so if there are any emergencies in college during these hours then call us 07758 629747. If the emergency is of a serious medical or criminal nature then obviously you should call 999, or Oxford University Security Services (OUSS emergencies: 01865 289999). If you discover a fire then you should activate the nearest fire alarm. During the day your point of contact for most problems should be the Porters in the first instance (01865 278490). If you find yourself locked out of your room at night when the Lodge is closed please ring the OUSS non-emergency number: 01865 272944.
Besides being on call, we run drop-in sessions every Tuesday during full term time (1st-8th week), 5pm-6pm, in the Van Heyningen Room. Pop by if there is anything you want to discuss. If you can't make that time please do send us an email or find us around college, and we can schedule something different.
Feel free to contact us with any questions. Otherwise, all best wishes for the term ahead, and we'll see you around!
